This time users of the imageboard aren’t trying to fool little kids into going. No, they’re going for gullible non-tech-savvy knuckleheads unwitting of the limits of smartphone software.
One of those users put out a request to the 4chan community for a fake ad to fool iPhone owners into thinking that the new iOs 7 operating system would make their phones waterproof.
The ad, which uses the same font and minimalist white background employed by Apple, reads:
“Update to iOS 7 and become waterproof.”
Then explains:
“In an emergency, a smart-switch will shut off the phone’s power supply and corresponding components to prevent any damage to your iPhone’s delicate circuitry.”
So of course, some people just had to show off to their friends how cool and awesome the new iOs 7 is, and started throwing their phones into rivers or using them to bathe their kids or whatever idiots do when they read a fake ad about waterproof cellphones — and then started freaking out after they realised that their iPhone devices are destroyed.
